Snow Day!
Northern Virginia is getting snow and everyone is freaking out.  I'm more worried about the ice coming tonight.  Still, my office decided to stay closed today.  I was wondering if management would still grant us this boon because our association is losing members and we are now poor.  I'm not going to fight it because it's still coming down snow, ice is forecast tonight and folks around here drive like rabid baboons.

So, what does one do when one has a snow day?  Go to the stores!  I wanted to check the road conditions once rush hour had wound down.  Turns out the roads, they are slippery. So that was a quick trip.  What to do next?  Looking through the cupboards, I find a cake mix and some frosting.  Perfect!  I actually have eggs and cake will be needed if I'm snowed in for days.  Oh look, the use by date for both is in the spring of 2007.  I'm sure they'll be fine.  But if you hear of a woman in Virginia dying of cake poisoning, you'll know it was me!

Please tell me the use-by date is for the cake-mix and not the eggs!

Yes! The eggs are actually the liquid kind that have the cholesterol removed and they are good till mid-February.

The cake cooked up fine and the frosting isn't separated or weird looking so I think I'm safe.

Now I need a new project.

Taxes are done.

Are you volunteering to clean? Sweet. When should I expect you?

After I finish painting the kitchen. ;-)

Since I don't yet actually live in her basement, I'm not sure. But she usually gets home about 7pm. I'm hoping she left early in case the roads get bad. She's in the Torchwood-mobile, so she should be fine.

Sadly, I have not left early. *pouts*

Bummer. Must be because it's your first day back from vacation. What a good doobie!

*laughs* I do that all the time, finding things that expired last year. Of course it's still good. Or at least none of it has killed me yet.

I don't play with canned food, though. I found some cans in my "In Event of Emergency" box that were past their expiration date by about 18 months. They went down the sink.

Anything interesting happen last night at work?

Interesting? Not really. The crack-head got admitted. Why do family want to bring in the drunk and high people when they pass out or have a mental status change? The purpose of the drugs or booze was to pass out or have a mental status change.

Cake mixes have expiration dates? Huh. I think I may have several sitting in my pantry that have been there a while. I bet they've expired too, then. *pouts some more*
