We built this city on rock and roll....

Four days.  That's how long that Jefferson Starship song has been in my head, on and off.  I welcome your pity.

Went to see Half Blood Prince at midnight.  beeej  totally twisted my arm to go.  Got home at 3:30am this morning.  Was at work by 9:10 am.   I don't recommend that.  Right now I'm on my first cup of coffee.  I don't drink coffee much, or any caffine really, and that helps on days like this.  I don't have a tolerance built up so this coffee has some punch.

The movie?  Beautifully shot, some really lovely moments, Quidditch, LUNA!!!  I was sad some of my favorite bits of dialog from the book did not make it into the film, but Broadbent was very good as Slughorn and all the main plot points are in there.  Rupert was hilarious!

I really don't want to do any work, not only because of the tired but because I'd rather be reading Endymion by Dan Simmons.  The Hyperion Cantos are as yummy as the Iain M. Banks Culture series.  Endymion is the third in a series of four.   I just started Endymion and I also have Rise of Endymion  calling to me from home.  It's a grand space opera and all a huge allusion to John Keats and there's big, bloody battles and quite a bit of commentary on religion.  What's not to love?  Did I mention the blue-skinned androids?  There are totally blue-skinned androids!  And the "bad guy" is a killing machine made of indestructable metal and razors.  God, I love these books.

I didn't mention Shore Leave in Baltimore and it was very good this year.  Attendance was down a bit but it was nice to vist the ladies room and not have to wait in a long line.  All the guests were very good.  I especially want to tell everyone to keep an eye on Miracle Laurie.  She's got that something that can make someone a huge star.  She's crazy beautiful, so poised, very personable and, just, real.  Also, she's so tiny in person!  According to Miracle, Tahmoh is even more beautiful in person.  jhava  was a lovely travelling companion, but beeej , well, there was that whole urinating off the balcony incident, but she did let me drive her almost-new Jeep, so, I suppose it all evens out.

WE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE A BALCONY! At least I don't remember one. There was a lot of fizzy, pink wine.

I was up at 7:30 this morning. They'll be here any second, and I'm falling asleep now.

"WE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE A BALCONY! At least I don't remember one."

You totally blacked out. I told you that if you huff paint after smoking all that crystal meth, there will probably be side effects. But you said "Hey, I'm on vacation."

I don't even want to think about what you did to those pigeons.

I love the Hyperion series, and Dan Simmons in particular, but I haven't yet started on the most recent book in the series. It's on the shelf, but I keep allowing TV to distract me. Iain Banks is another fave of mine, along with Sheri S. Tepper. If you don't already read her stuff, I recommend it. Especially "Grass."

Have you read Drood? I tried and just couldn't get into it. I may try again at a later date.
I have been meaning to check out Tepper's The Margarets and have yet to get a copy. There are just too many books to read!

I have Drood on an Amazon wishlist, but haven't committed to it yet because of the huge backlog of books and shows at home, and because when we go to Italy in September I'll be borrowing my boss' Kindle, and think I might get hooked on that format.

I haven't read The Margarets, either, yet- it just didn't look that intriguing, though the back cover descriptions of Tepper's books always seem to be misleading anyway, but in a good way.

I need to just retire so I have enough time for everything. If Sarah Palin is behind an idea, it can't be wrong, can it?
